  • Hathersage - Day 4

    Thu 10 Oct 2019

    Good evening everyone,

All is well and we've had another wonderful day. After breakfast, we set off for the station where we took the train to Grindleford. We then walked to Padley Chapel where one of the local guides told us about the history of the chapel and we played a game of 'priests and guards.' Next, we made our way up the incline plane and watched some rock climbers as we ate our lunch.

After lunch, we walked past Surprise View to a woodland, where we worked in small groups to make some woodland art before walking back to Hathersage.

We had our tea at The Little John and then had a film night this evening, watching a Scooby Doo film.

Tomorrow, we will be visiting Treak Cliff Cavern before returning home. We will see you all soon.

    Good night everyone!

  • Hathersage - Day 3

    Wed 09 Oct 2019

    Hello everyone,

All is well here in Hathersage and we've had another action-packed day.

The children got up at 7.00am and had scrambled egg, beans and toast for breakfast. Today's activities were orienteering and a river study. The children were very good with the maps whilst orienteering and they definitely had their daily exercise, running around the course. Whilst carrying out the river study, we caught lots of crayfish and managed to identify some of the other creatures. We also had a raft race. The children were challenged to build a raft which could transport a rubber duck down the river - it proved quite tricky!

Our well-earned tea was cottage pie with carrots and pies, followed by treacle sponge and custard.

Tonight, we held our talent show - lots of dancing, jokes and artwork on display. The children are now fast asleep, looking forward to another fascinating day tomorrow.

    More news tomorrow night!

  • Hathersage - Day 2

    Tue 08 Oct 2019

    Good evening everyone,

Everyone is well here in Hathersage. We've had a wonderful day.

The children got up at 7.00am and enjoyed a lovely breakfast - cereal followed by bacon, hash browns and spaghetti hoops. We then set off to Eyam where we spent most of the day touring the historic sites  related to the plague. We then walked back to Hathersage over Eyam Moor.

For tea, we visited the Little John pub where the children had a good choice of meals.

Tonight, we had a quiz based upon what we have learnt so far and then the children got ready for bed.

Another exciting day ahead of us tomorrow.

More news tomorrow night. Good night everyone!

  • Hathersage - Day 1

    Mon 07 Oct 2019

    Hello everyone,

All is well here in Hathersage. On arriving at St. Michael's, we had our lunch, settled into our dorms and made our beds. This afternoon we had a very soggy Village Trail, discovering some of the historic features of Hathersage. The rain didn't deter us as we were well wrapped up in our waterproofs.

After drying off, we had a lovely tea - lasagne, garlic bread and salad followed by apple crumble and custard.

Tonight we had an amazing night walk around Brookfield Manor Estate. The skies had cleared and the manor basked in the light of the half moon.

The children are now settled in bed, heading for a good night's sleep and looking forward to an exciting day tomorrow.

    Good night everyone!
